The Frog's Princess (The Stone Bearers Book 0) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 14 ratings

In the world of The Stone Bearers, Jacque Stevens tells the story of an unusual defender and his princess.

The gods are leaving, bestowing their powers upon mortals and gifting them with guardians to guide and protect them. Most of the gods have chosen powerful creatures as their guardians, such as drakes or wolves. One goddess makes a less obvious choice. But how can a frog hope to protect a princess?

This was a darling little story about a frog who loved a goddess and who was imbued with special powers. The frog had a great deal of insight for a frog. Of course, I have no idea of how much insight an ordinary frog has. And perhaps the goddess gave the insight to the frog since he was such a good listener. We may never know.

But it was a lighthearted story and complete despite its length. And as I have come to expect with Jacque's books, even the smallest stories have a big heart.

It is an ill wind blowing if the gods decide to leave the affairs of men to...well, men. As Esmia did.
Now, if you thought The Frog's princess is a simple retelling of the story of the frog and the princess, then you are hugely mistaken.
There is a frog, of course. But he can shapeshift. And he was not a prince held in spell. Never was either.
And there is a princess. Her name is Iliana. A feisty, fiery one, really.
And that is where the similarities with the fairy fantasy ends. And another story starts. Enjoy!

This was an enjoyable short story with a very likable talking frog with much ingenuity :) I haven't yet read the Stone Bearers series so this was a good introduction. I came across the author by way of the Robin Hood retelling in the Enchanted Kingdom anthology. Did I mention that I really liked the Camm the Frog??? :)

The Gods are leaving and decide to leave their powers to certain humans. They struggle to handle their new powers but they have been given animals as protectors. The frog, Camm, is the animal protector for the princess, but she doesn’t really want the job.
Actually liked the flow of this book, it might be a series I might make a visit to.

I haven't read anything else by this author, and therefore don't know anything about the series that this short tale relates to, but I suspect that it's a great series as this was a beautiful short. Well done characters, innovative world and backstory, nicely done plot which was more layered than you'd expect in a story of this size. All in all very delicious, and definitely recommended.

A great prequel to the Stone Bearer's series. I had already read the first book in the series, The Stone Bearers. This was a great introduction to why the Bearers exist. A fun introduction and I love Camm even more.
