Rapunzel's Lighthouse (Love at the Shore) Paperback – June 29, 2017

4.2 out of 5 stars 21 ratings

Georgie Daniels rarely leaves the cottage attached to the Salt Cliffs lighthouse, except when necessary for a trip into town for food. For the last two years, since the lighthouse was declared a historic landmark, she’s lived in the cottage out of sight and, she hopes, out of the minds of the town. With the defunct lighthouse in arrears and in disrepair, she knows it’s only a matter of time before the lighthouse will be on the auction block of the town hall’s steps. With long hair that no one has seen before, except in the fabled fairy tale Rapunzel, things were going well until new neighbor Colby Ford shows up on her doorstep. Colby Ford didn’t intend to retire from the Navy, at least not right now. When he finds himself with an injury that pushes him into an early retirement, the possibility of opening a sailing school in the coastal town of Salt Cliffs is his only hope. Renting the Moore cottage, he needs to find the right location for his school and a place to store the boats. While in town, a conversation with a store keeper makes his curiosity about the lighthouse burn even stronger – what kind of woman lives alone in a defunct lighthouse? In need of paint for the cottage porch, he pays Georgie a visit. Feeling like he’s seen her before, that’s when it hits him – Georgie Daniels is a real life Rapunzel. And this Rapunzel wants nothing to do with being neighborly. Until she’s forced to save him during a storm. Georgie and Colby have both had their share of disappointments and heartache. Just as Georgie is beginning to open up to him, a letter she finds threatens to shut her down again. Can their shared desperate need for a home bring them together?

Christina is a bestselling author of thirteen sweet romance books. She started writing as a young teen, jotting stories in wire ring composition notebooks. Her first typewriter made it faster to get all those stories out of her head and down on paper. Her love of writing has sustained her through a myriad of jobs that included hairdresser, legal secretary, waitress and Avon Lady.

Luckily for her, writing proved to be successful and a lot less walking than door to door sales. She loves to write the types of stories that she loves to watch on her favorite channel, Hallmark. Quaint small towns and happily ever afters are a guarantee. When she isn't writing or reading, she can be found walking her dog, talking to her herd of cats and spending time with her family.

More than just a modern Rapunzel tale, the narrative is more about inner power and faith to pass blockage that keeps one from moving forward to a brighter future. The story is told from the point of view of Georgie and Colby and we gradually learn to fully know these two characters till the last sentence. Their early meeting when Colby knocked at her door, injured, tells a lot about her through this beautiful double-meaning line: ‘As she leaned closer to inspect her work, her brown hair wrapped around her like a blanket, blocking her from his sight.’ Will he be able to penetrate her blockage? Well, a life-threatening situation and something with Georgie’s long hair are always perfect scenes to test this question, flawlessly orchestrated by an intelligent author and her sensitive writing,

The way the author portrays Georgie and Colby own thoughts and hesitations is quite amusing deserving 5-star rating. Between the lines, the ‘father’ motif is strong in shaping the nature of these two and providing the story with the depth it deserves. This easy read is great escapism for anyone who likes modern fairytales.

This is a cute story about a modern-day Rapunzel. Unlike the traditional fairy tale, this Rapunzel (named Georgie) wasn't kidnapped and kept in the tower by an evil woman, but leads a rather hermit-like existence by choice. She has emotional wounds, and she's so anti-social (not just anti-men - she also refuses to chat with women) that she's downright rude to her neighbor Colby when he shows up at her door asking if she has spare paint. Fortunately he has a thick skin and he's brave enough to stop in again when he hurts himself. He certainly has a tough job breaking through her defenses!

I loved this story! At first, I did not like Colby. I felt he was taking advantage of Georgie to make the lighthouse better for him, but when they first kissed I was so happy that I fell in love with him. I held my breath when he made that last trip to the rocks and cried when Georgie made the trip to the hair salon (trying to not give too much away), but was very happy at the end. I loved the name of the town, Salt Cliffs, it sounds like a place I’d like to visit and of course I would LOVE to live in a lighthouse/cottage by the sea. Well done Christina, very well done.

What's not to love about lighthouses and Maine? I enjoyed this book. Well done!

A contemporary retelling of Rapunzel. I loved this story of a girl not sure what her future holds and a guy who is searching for his present.

Georgie grew up taking care of Salt Cliff's lighthouse, which has now fallen into disrepair. She is allowed to stay in the adjacent cottage until it's decided what will become of it. Where will she go then?

Colby is injured which causes him to retire from the Navy before he planned. He wants to open a sailing school, and the lighthouse would be the perfect location. Will he bid on the lighthouse and force Georgie to leave the only home she's known?

Georgie opens her heart to Colby, until she reads a letter in his possession. He plans to attend the auction of her lighthouse. She doesn't want to move, but she doesn't have the funds to purchase it. How could he buy it out from under her?

Rapunzel's Lighthouse is a fun read. With her long hair, and Colby's determination, I couldn't put this book down until I'd read to the end to see what would become of Rapunzel's lighthouse.

I received a free copy in the hope that I would mention/review it on my blog. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I love that is bout a lighthouse and the woman who lives there that became a hermit after her dad passed away. Her thick hair is just past her bottom. She usually wears it in a braid or coiled on top of her head. Georgie has received notice that the property is going to be auctioned off. Colby had to retire from the Navy after ten years due to a shoulder injury. He wants to start a sailing school and where the light house sits would be a good place for his school. He wears her down to be friends, then she finds he wants to buy the lighthouse and that ends the friendship. To see what happens you will have to read the book. I don’t want to give every thing away.

Since her father’s death two years ago, Georgie Daniels has rarely left the lighthouse where she lives. However, her life changes after she meets her new neighbor, Colby Ford. He would love to start a sailing school, and the lighthouse may play a key role in his plans. After starting to let down her guard, how will Georgie respond when she leans Colby has been keeping secrets?

Lorenzen’s latest is an enjoyable tale. It’s a bit hard to understand at first why Georgie acts the way she does, but there is good development to explain things as the story unfolds. This is the first book I’ve read by Lorenzen, but I’ll certainly be looking up others. If you’re want a quick read this summer, this is one to check out.
