The Ruin of Eros (Shadows of Olympus) Paperback – October 7, 2024
Purchase options and add-ons
We grew up with stories of the gods. We know how cruel they can be. But I’ve spent my whole life playing by the rules, trying not to stand out. I know what happened to my mother—standing out was what got her into trouble.
But now, because of the king’s vanity, the goddess Aphrodite is out for blood... mine. Even my father, one of the king's councilors, can’t save me. Nor can my sister, or my fiancé. But I'm determined I will not let them see me tremble, even when the king’s men leave me shackled on the great rock they call Aphrodite’s Pillow.
When I see the shadowed figure emerging from the mist—black cloak, hidden face, a hunter’s stride—I know he must be my executioner. But then, instead of death, the cloaked stranger offers me a bargain. He’ll save my life… in exchange for my freedom.
It's an impossible choice—bind myself to a monster, or suffer divine vengeance. It's a choice with only one answer, if I want to live. But waking in a palace in a new, strange realm, I still wonder if I chose wrong. What is a mortal woman to do in a world where everything has been taken from her? Fight back. And guard her heart. I’ve lost my family, I’ve lost my freedom, and I may yet lose my life. But I will not lose my heart. No matter what it says it wants…
A Beauty and the Beast romance set in the epic world of Greek mythology, The Ruin of Eros is a captivating romantasy must read, with a fantastic storyline full of tension and a strong female character as its heroine. - Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2024It has been a long time since I read a fantasy book but I thoroughly enjoyed The Run of Eros. The story is very gripping and fully draws you into the mythic world. There was some romance in it as well and I very much enjoyed having such a strong female character. Altogether a great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2024Great story. Had me hooked from the first page to the last. Can't wait for the next book. However I would have liked if there was spicy parts to read. There's only kissing. But all in all I it's a great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2024If you like stories about Greek gods (kind of a Percy Jackson type, or even Hercules) then this one’s for you. Not my cup of tea truly, but it wasn’t bad.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2024A gripping, tense love story—Madeline Miller worthy: This compelling classic tale will quickly connect modern-day audiences through its protagonists' very contemporary observations. I enjoyed finding a refreshing departure from more traditional heroine archetypes, active, bold heroines in The Ruin of Eros!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2025The Ruin of Eros is a great novel. It is a retelling of the Beauty and the Beast story but with the backdrop of Greek mythology. The characters are great. The story is engaging. I will definitely need to check out the rest of the series.
Thank you to Hidden Gems Books and the author for giving me a chance to read it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2024First off, I'd always enjoyed reading stories of Greek myths since I was a teenager. My favorite is Hades and Persephone and Eros and Psyche was my second. I loved reading this story by Maya Gryffin that's about Psyche and Eros. She did a wonderful job writing this tale that falls more to the Beauty and the Beast theme. Eros takes Psyche to his kingdom to protect her from Aphrodite's wrath. Psyche agrees until she sees the destruction of her town. Fearing and wondering if her family is alive, she tries to escape. Does she? I felt drawn into the era and the characters and the storyline was compelling from the beginning to the end. The original Greek story is quite different than this story. I want to thank Maya Gryffin for allowing me to read this copy that was included in the copy of her next book "The Bride of Atlantis". I'd volunteer to read and review this copy I'd received.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2024This book is beautifully written. I absolutely fell in love with beauty and the beast all over again, and I have never heard the story of eros and psyche it’s a wonderful book that if you love the talent of beauty and the beast, you’ll love this one too, and the little girl I always loved the towel of beauty and the beast. I think if I’ve heard the story first I would’ve fell in love with Eros and psyche story.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is the story of Psyche and Eros meets Beauty and the Beast and it really was an enjoyable read.

I would definitely read the other books in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous read!
This book is such a great read, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I could see all the characters in my head so clearly I might have been at the cinema.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not for me
This is a re-telling of the love story between Eros and Psyche. The reviews were very good and as I love Greek myths I was looking forward to this. Maybe it's just me but I found it rather boring. When she is saved by Eros, her time in his castle seemed to drag. I was waiting for much more to happen between them and the internal monologues by Psyche were endless. Then just when something exciting happens it just ended! Sadly, no spicy scenes either. Obviously the next book will continue their story but I'm not interested enough to carry on.
