Fate's Captive: London Fae Court Book 1 Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 68 ratings

A mysterious fae lord who can’t be trusted.
Raegel is handsome, powerful, and he’s hiding something. His motives aren’t clear but I’m certain he wants me, if only for the power he thinks I possess.

He’s taken everything from me - my freedom, my identity, my choices.

I was ignorant of my abilities but I was safe, protected from the curse of my heritage. I might be the key to finding The Relics of Fate, but they were hidden for a reason. One Raegel is determined to ignore as he seeks to reclaim the relics for the fae. He’s threatening to steal my future as he offers me the world in exchange for what he wants.

He’s dangerous. He’s relentless. He’s undeniably attractive and he draws me in, trapping me in a deadly game.

And when ancient rivalries threaten destiny itself, the only thing I’m sure of is that Raegel is keeping something from me. Something important. Something lethal. Something that could save me from the mysterious and captivating fae who would destroy the world to get what he wants.

And what he wants is me.

CJ Holmes lives in England, where it's cold and damp, and it's always raining - which provides her with enough time to write stories about magic, fantasy and romance. She'd like to escape to somewhere warm but that might mean that she spends too much time sunbathing and not enough time writing books.

She lives in a quaint English cottage which would have one of those idyllic gardens if her fingers weren't the opposite of green. Fortunately, her husband and children don't seem to mind that almost everything she tries to grow ends up dead. She enjoys drinking wine and gin, which conveniently coincides with her love of reading and writing, as well as running and watching bad TV shows. You have been warned....

This book was soo good! It has a strong, no-nonsense, but also very feminine main character. I love how you find out information through out the book, but it doesn’t mess up the pace. It’s one of those books that when you look up to check the time you realize that you’ve been reading until 2am!! I love the hidden realm of Fae’s, and that they’re not what we think of when we think of typical Fairies. The slow burn had me turning the pages vigorously! I can’t wait to read the rest of the books to see where the adventure and Fae’s take us next!

You know when you decide to start a series of books and you’re not 100% if you’ll LOVE it so you only start with book 1? Yeah don’t do that with this series. TRUST me. Now I have to wait for books 2 & 3 to get here which is just not cool. It’s safe to say that I loved this book, since I devoured it in less than 24 hours. But honestly what I loved most about this book was that it was relatable. What if you were a fated match but you felt as if the choice to accept that match was taken from you? When this happens to Lily, she does what every other woman would do in the situation….. I bet you thought I was going to tell you how she responded huh? I guess you’ll have to read the book :)

Lily is waylaid by her boss's boss when she refuses to accept the task he places before her. Soon, she learns he is a member of the London Fae Court. His boss, Raegel, leader of the Court, visits after another declined offer. As beautiful as Raegel is, she still rejects the job. He then reveals her true heritage.

This Paranormal Witches & Wizards Romance is pleasing. Deceit and distrust are the currency of this tale. While there are measures of success, this is only an introduction to the series.

Fate’s Captive is book one in The London Fae Court Series. The main characters are Lily, who is a descendant of Fortuna, one of the Fates, and Raegel, the Lord of the Fae Court in London. The book was fantastic, the storyline interesting and the characters are well written so it all grabbed you. I loved how this was a fae romantasy but not at all in a typical way. Lily is hilarious and there were times where I found myself laughing out loud. The slow burn had me turning the pages vigorously. Can't wait to dive right into the next book!

I read an average of 2 books a week consistently, month after year. I enjoy reading about women with strong personalities (as well as many other genres), but in Lily's case her strong personality doesn't seem to be enough. Every man in her life verbally and to a certain point physically abuses her. Her ex-boyfriend, her boss, her boss's boss, the Fae who kidnap her, the Vampires who kidnap her, and so on. Seems she can never catch a break. If you like adventure that never seems to favor the heroine, you might enjoy this book. At first I thought that C J Holmes was a guy who considered himself superior to women in real life. It was surprising to learn that the author is female, and now I'm not quite sure what to think. My attitude is that all women as well as all men, until they prove otherwise to me, should be treated the way that I want to be treated. I don't believe I will continue with this series. Maybe C J Holmes has other series that I might enjoy.

This has a different side of the fae than I usually read about but I am loving it. There are some strong characters with a great storyline, along with some mystery that intrigues you as you continue to read.

I chose to read this book due to the intriguing premise. The author delivered an imaginative story that was filled with drama, intrigue and suspense. The characters were equally fascinating though I loved her character. I look forward to reading more.

I received this book from voracious readers as a free book and I was pleasantly surprised. It kept me guessing about what was going to happen to the FMC next.
Vampire fae"s Werewolves. I am getting the next one in the series to see what happens next along her journey to find the relics .

5.0 out of 5 stars This book made me want to work in an office again, so I too can be kidnapped by a Fae Lord

Late February I saw a post on Threads looking for Indie authors to join an indie book club. I decided that would be fun so I joined. And CJ's book was the first one we read:

I loved this book, it was a quick read. As in, it was one of those books you can easily get lost in. If you love overly protective morally gray fae lords. You will love Reagal. If you love sassy AF FMC's you will love Lily. I might still be #teamRiven though. So I will need to read the rest of the series. Aside from the strong characters, who are all not likable at times (making them real and relatable).

This book has great open-door smut. Literal open-door as a punishment smut!! You know I love my smut and this was well written. No weird euphemism and smut that helps the plot. And as overbearing and protective as Reagal is, I loved the clear consent in this book.

While the book ended on enough of a cliffhanger for me to want the rest of the series. This book can be read as a stand alone. But for me personally I cannot wait to visit the London Fae Court again.

Loved the plot, rich and compelling, but most of all, I enjoyed the pull and push between the characters while they tried to navigate a near-impossible situation. And I loved the plethora of interesting side characters. Absolutely a book I'd recommend. And now on to the second one.

It's a Paranormal Romance, which isn't my usual genre to read. That being said I did thoroughly enjoy it.

It has FAE, Vampires and Werewolves, which is right up my street.
I like to support indie authors as much as possible, I kept seeing this on my social media platforms, so I thought, why not.

The story was good and it had strong characters. This is book 1 of 4, so there is much more to come.

    Recommend this one guys! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked from chapter one!
Reviewed in Brazil on February 5, 2024
This was such an easy reading, I lost track of time while reading it, the book gets you hooked from chapter one, it's incredible!

Lily has one hell of a hangover, but must go to work anyway. She planned to feel sick and tired throughout the day, what she didn't plan was to find a secret world hidden in London along with legendary creatures and a pair of silver eyes that goes with a 'take your breath away' worth of a male called Raegel, who is as alluring as terrifying.

She also didn't plan for all these creatures to be chasing her and for the truth she discovers.

Lily is sassy, witty, ironic and stands her ground... sometimes.
She hides her true feelings behind jokes, she can be vulnerable and scared, but she tries her best to deal with the whole "Hey, by the way, there's a whole secret world you don't know about" situation.

What I like the most about her is that she is dealing with a crazy situation and will act as such, as any human being, she won't blindly accept things as true or trust these weird pointy ears and winged people (but, hey, don't mention the ear thing, ok?). She is flawed, fueled by her emotions and has much to learn, like anyone.

Raegen is not your typical MMC, expect to get frustrated with this one, he might be insanely hot and make your insides go mushy, but he keeps things from you, it's incredibly bossy, territorial, possessive and terrifying.

His character gave me so many mixed emotions throughout the book, at times I was in love with him and others I just wanted to punch him in the face.
He can be sweet, sexy and shady when he seems not to listen to her or what she's feeling and insists on telling half truths, at the same time he seems to read her like an open book.
Get read to question him, a lot! He is far from perfect, but he is learning.

This is a fast paced reading with lots of twists and turns. The main characters are not perfect, far from it and they need to work on themselves, on their relationship and their communication but they are getting there.

Would also like to mention a secundary character, Riven, who is so captivating and mysterious that this could easily had being a love triagle and sometimes I might have wished it were, he is just that good.

Also I'd just like to say that there is this one character whose name is Mycroft, but I could only read it as Microsoft for some reason 😂
