Flirtation or Faceoff: A Hockey Romance (D.C. Eagles Hockey Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 3,627 ratings

After getting my heart broken, I’ve sworn off athletes forever.

Then my best friend has to go and marry an NHL player, and his teammate, Colby Knight, won’t leave me alone.

Colby is a master at scoring (on
and off the ice), and he’s not used to being told no. So he takes my disinterest as an invitation to pursue me even harder. I ignore him… until I realize I can use his expertise to help me get my crush’s attention.

But now that he’s my dating coach, and we’re spending so much time together, I’m growing more and more distracted. I mean, those dimples?
Very enticing.

Just when I think he might be more than just a playboy hockey player, a blast from the past comes back and reminds me why I swore off athletes in the first place.

Can I trust Colby, or is he just another jerk who will break my heart?

(This is a dual POV, fade-to-black romance, and can be read as a standalone. This book contains mild language. Trigger warnings: cheating exes.)

About the Author

Leah Brunner is a Kansas girl at heart, but currently resides in Northern California, with her husband and three children. (At least until the Air Force moves them again). She loves writing witty banter, quirky heroines, and sweet happy endings. As a child she was told that she lived in her own little world and was oblivious to reality. The normal world seemed way too boring to Leah, and not much changed as she became an adult. Writing is one way she enjoys sharing her little world with others.

Top read of the year!

Top read of the year!
Well this is definitely going to be one of my favorite books of the year! I loved this one!! So many great laugh out loud moments! Colby and Noel were just so great! So many swoony moments including sweater vest, annotating, special dinner spots, and building a special secret (can’t have any spoilers)! Their relationship was so fun to watch grow. They both had people in their lives who hurt them with their words. That is so relatable and I loved how they helped each other get passed those mental blocks or fears. I loved Colby’s relationship with his half-sister and Noel’s relationship with Gram. Also, the girl gang was so fun and I loved seeing the crossover between the books in the series. Of course, the team’s friendship and unique personalities is always fun to read. I love the DC Eagles. Brunner does a wonderful job balancing the funny, swoony, and emotional parts of people’s lives. This is a must read!

Holy cow! This book was amazing! Colby has my heart. He is so sweet and thoughtful. I loved seeing him interact with his family. I loved watching him work for Noel’s trust and love. I don’t think many men would offer to be their crushes dating coach, but Colby does. He is so in love with her! Noel is very relatable. I loved watching her grow and work through her trust issues.

I absolutely LOVE D.C. Eagles Hockey! Flirtation or Faceoff did not disappoint. I loved both of these characters and I absolutely adored Colby. He is a reformed NHL player (and I don't mean hockey) who is instantly attracted to bookish college professor Noel. Little does he know that she has been hurt by a hockey player in the past and has sworn off all athletes. She wants a sweater vest wearing professor at her college. Colby is not to be deterred and pursues Noel by actively participating in her hobbies. It turns out that he has a powerful ally who persuades/forces Noel to go out with Colby. I don't want to give away too much, but she is force to be reckoned with and I hope to be her when I grow up.

When Noel decides that she can use Colby's expertise in the art of flirtation to win over her work crush, Colby jumps at the chance to spend time with Noel and take her on "fake" dates. Slowly but surely, Noel realizes that the man of her dreams has been in front of her all along.

The banter between these characters is so much fun. The spice is low as is the case with Leah's books, but the story is so much fun and the chemistry between the main characters is so hot that it does not matter that the spice is low.

I accidentally read this book out of series order, but it didn't matter. All of the books in this series are stand alone. I recommend them all. Colby's team mates are all swoon worthy.

The fact the Colby has been pinning for Noel for a year. So my goodness yes.
Colby is a professional hockey player and Noel is a history teacher at a college ( which happens to have a D1 hockey program)
Noel has always seen herself with a nice quiet man. Little does she know she’s always needed a a wonderfully obnoxious flirt like Colby.
He is fiercely loyal, an outrageous flirt, wonderful brother and hockeys pretty boy.
This was absolutely wonderful to read !!
I’ll tell you Grams, she’s one of my favorites in this book. !!

Okay I’m kinda lowkey obsessed with this one?

I relate a lot to Noel and I think that’s part of why I liked this one so much. She is intelligent, bookish, and a bit hurt by past experiences. But she was also funny and strong and took it all in stride.

And I loved Colby. He was so funny and flirty but also sweet and genuine. And *small spoiler* but can we talk about the library?? *swoon*

I just loved how Colby thought about and talked to Noel and how evident it was that he adores her. Ugh. So cute!

And like I said before, I may need to start watching hockey? Undecided at this point hahaha.

There was definitely a bit of language, some innuendo, and a fade to black scene. But nothing too crazy.

Colby ah colby..a dream of a character and what a 180 turnaround from his presence in the first book. Felt this his character just took off from the start whereas Noel seemed to be stuck a fair amount of time with her past. A real great story and loved supporting characters especially Gram. Looking forward to the next one.
