Sarah is a romantic fantasy and contemporary romance author. As a former human resources generalist, she brought her passion for diversity and inclusion to her writing. Beneath all the terrible things her characters go through, there is always a thread of hope in Sarah's stories. Expect trigger warnings (excluding certain ones), fast paced plots, cliffhangers, and happy endings.

Sarah is a wife and also mother to two neurodivergent sons who inspire her stories every day.

There is something about this author’s style that results in deeply intimate characters — as in, the reader can climb into their shoes and walk as them on their journeys. It results in a compelling story in a rich, multicultural, multilingual world with real world cultures as inspiration (this is the only book I’ve seen that mentions henna). And the author doesn’t shy away from very real discussions on women’s health and women’s issues.

To my misfortune, though, this book was not for me. But I do hope the right readers come across this work and love it.

Warning: Not sure how to write a review without SPOILERS!

In a world where much magic seems to be feared, we discover the endless possibilities - and limitations - of healers, seers, time keepers, and elemental wielders.

A love triangle, a morally grey MMC, and both saints and goddesses meddling with mortal affairs....

    I'm ready for book two!

This really needs more love! The ending was crazy stayed up til 2 am to finish the last 20% so many things happened!

Twists and turns galore. It's late so I'm a loss for words but definitely enjoyed it

If you’re wanting a well-written, high fantasy romance, this might be your next read. Extremely well paced and really intriguing twists and turns. It was just a really easy read while also having depth at the same time. That’s hard to find in this genre.

I think this is a great fantasy romance debut! I thought it was a very engaging, compelling read and finished it in one sitting.

The FMC, Nirel Neydelin, is a young apothecary and healer who is ripped away from all she knows after an attack on her family. Due to her revealed healing abilities, she is taken to the king, and conscripted into service as the king’s healer. She’s a very empathetic and caring heroine, and it’s a pleasure watching her strength and fortitude develop over the course of the book.

One of the MMCs is Jase Nagden, a soldier in the king’s army and one of the men who must remove her from her family after she heals her brother and reveals her magic. He has an immediate tenderness toward Nirel that he cannot explain., and Nirel realizes they have both suffered losses and share a bond.

The other MMC is Corvin, who she meets after she arrives at the capital. He’s a seer in the King’s court, and motivated primarily out of fear based obedience to his father and to the king. He is pretty manipulative in general, but his seer abilities entwine with Nirel’s emotions and healing magic and cloud her mind. Not a truly bad guy, and charming. But he is being driven by unseen forces and some level of desperation.

Nirel discovers that she is not only required to serve the king as healer for 10 years, but that her fate is bound to the seer. She looks for ways to bargain for escape and is distressed by her true desire to be with Jase. But being the master of her own destiny looks to be further complicated when strange magical forces keep attacking her and mysterious voices continue to call to her. Learning the history of the country opens her eyes to the existence of time manipulation and everything really gets crazy.

I could not put this book down. Read it in one sitting. I thought the world building and character development and plot and intrigue were incredibly well done. Tension of the romantic and sexual kind intermingled with faith and even a nod to purity culture, adventure, intrigue, hidden identities, a forced proximity love triangle and “touch her and die” vibes, it really has it all!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Fantasy Romance
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 2, 2024
This was my first audiobook and...WOW!

I was completely hooked. The prose was engaging and plot had depth and intrigue. The characters were so well written and the narration was fantastic, especially when it came to Jase and Corvin.

The story is a high fantasy with an unique twist involving time travel. There's a love triangle but it's done so well. To be honest, I fell for Jase and Corvin individually alongside Nirel, and the push and pull from both MMCs was brilliant. I must say, though, I'm a sucker for Corvin. There's just something about him.

Can't wait to read the second book, which is also available in audiobook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the diverse representation
Reviewed in Germany on December 12, 2023
While romantasy is not my usual genre, I read “Nirel” for the diverse representation it promised, and I was not disappointed. Of course, the book is a bit too heavy on romance to my taste, but that was to be expected, so I won’t grumble about that. Apart from the romance, I loved pretty much everything about “Nirel”.

This is a dark story that deals with heavy subjects in a sensitive manner, which is a huge draw for me. The prose is smooth, and the characterisation superb.

The cliffhanger at the end was not a problem for me, as I already had the sequel “Dissonance” on my Kindle, and, frankly, I couldn’t wait to dive into it!

Timetravel high fantasy story that had me gasping multiple times while reading.
There's a good balance between the romance and the action.
Several things surrounding the worlds lore and magic get introduced throughout, and I'm very excited to see how this will further unfold! I absolutely loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredible indie fantasy romance
Reviewed in Germany on October 14, 2023
So I was not expecting to be sucked in by this book! 😂 The magic system is really well developed, which I love - it's the one thing about fantasy novels that keeps me addicted in adulthood, so it's great to see this in an independently published book.

The characters are really well written: Nirel remains a relatable character despite her powers and her relationship development with the other characters occurs very naturally and believably. The secondary characters are all fleshed out and dynamic - Bernard is my personal favourite: he reminds me a bit of Davos in Game of Thrones, very down to earth and fatherly.

This is what I would describe as romantic fantasy, leaning more towards the romance: while there are political aspects to it, it's more character driven and focussed on character relationships. (Keep an eye out for that one really spicy scene: I realized a tad too late that I had ventured on a NSFW bit on my phone when sitting in a tightly crowded hospital canteen at work, which left me a tad red-faced lol 😂)

It reminds me of A Court of Thorns and Roses in its genre and writing style, with a few similar story notes. While I think the prose style itself is a bit simple and to the point for my personal taste (I'm used to big tomes of fantasy novels punctuated by indepth descriptions of massive feast menus, coughGeorgeRRMartincough), I think it works well with the pace of the novel. The sequence of events is so fast paced that floral language or any huge character introspection would crank it to a halt, so it works great for the purposes of this book.

It hooked me from the get-go with its story - Rajah is a dab hand at a cliffhanger 😂 A sequel is also in the works, which is brilliant news and which I will definitely be keeping an eye out for 🥰
