Miss Ellen Wedgewood is left with nothing after her father passes away. Her late father had squandered their family fortune through his drinking and gambling. Now all Ellen has left is her pet pug named Duchess. Ellen is grateful when an old friend of her late mother, The Dowager Duchess of Baringdale, offers her a position as a governess to her two great-granddaughters.

Christian Barnes, the Duke of Baringdale, has spent the last two years running away from his responsibility as the legal guardian of his late sister’s two daughters. A chance to do business with a wealthy earl has him attending his grandmother’s summer house party in the countryside. The last thing Christian expects is to be attracted to his ward’s lovely governess, Miss Wedgwood.
