Description
Kentucky, The “Bluegrass State,” has turned red.
A decade after a catastrophic experiment gone wrong, vampires now boldly leave emptied bodies in the street, and humans will soon cower in fear.
The Guardians, a clandestine force intent on stopping the carnage, have covertly infiltrated the dwindling human population as they prepare for the coming battle.
Some will have to make tough decisions. Some will completely question whether they are on the right side of this war.
Both sides have their strengths, weaknesses, and pitch-black secrets— but who will prevail?
Warning: This book does contain some romance elements so it can be classified as a Paranormal romance however it is more focused on the characters and their journey.
I’m sorry to say this, as far as I am concerned, is not one of Ashley Zakrzewski’s better books.
Jane’s father is the Sheriff of her town. He is also an abuser, and a sadistic shit but Jane can’t ever give any sign of this or he will be one of the first to hear. As it is Jane has no life to speak of. She is a straight-A student but has no friends and never attends any school functions. Her fellow students think,” she is too strange.” No one has any idea she is not allowed to do anything but go straight to school and then right home. Her mother is no help, when her father starts going crazy, she is just happy it is not her.
Envio and his group break down Janes’ home door and pay the sheriff and his wife back for all the harm they have inflicted on Jane. Envio sympathizes with the horrors Jane has been faced to live with because he came from the same type of environment and has pledged to protect others. The only way he can be sure to keep her protected is to turn her. But, Jacob, his leader of the “Blood Takers” does not know he has been able to hide his humanity away and is able to deny the blood lust. He is able to take blood only when necessary to live and not drain his food source. His hope is to be able for him and Jane to aid the Guardians in eliminating the blood takers. Envio realizes Samuel, leader of the Guardians will need the information he is more than happy to share with them to defeat Jacob. His one request is for him and Jane to become members of The Guardians.
