Jack Mallory from Chicago and another man enter the stagecoach in Cheyenne. The other man just stares at the floor or sleeps for 2 days. Finally, he introduces himself as Melvin Gaul from Missouri. The stage stops and they are nowhere near a town. Exiting the stage they spy an old man, gosh at least 80, standing in front of the horses. The driver informs Jack this old codger aims to rob us. Marvin asks him how he got out here. There is no house or form of transportation anywhere in sight. Finally, after the gentleman looks around confused Jack asks him where he is from, what his name is. He receives the answer Hurbert and Moville. That is exactly where the stage is headed. Marvin and Jack try to persuade the man to get in the coach but the driver says the fare is $65 which Jack complains is the full fare from Cheyenne but he is told that is the fare. Jack realizes this man is far from home and more than a little confused. He pays his fare and Marvin and Jack wrestle him into the coach.
Moville, a mining town has a real problem. Someone is targeting miners and killing them on mining property. Jack plans to mind his own business and work his claim. He soon realizes there is no more gold in the streams and he is forced to work for the mining company. So far four men have been killed and the mayor Bob Haskell and sheriff George Zappar are nowhere near finding the killer.
